Q&A

How many treatments are necessary for desired result?

Most people will require 6 sessions to see maximum results. In between sessions, the hair will grow back lighter and more fine. Once the hair follicle is destroyed, the hair is less likely to grow back.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal slows hair growth, but doesn’t always remove it permanently. The hair can also come back with hormonal changes. Most people will need to schedule annual touch-ups after their initial round of treatments.

How long before treatment should I shave?

It is recommended you shave 24 hours before each laser hair removal treatment. This ensures that hair isn’t absorbing the laser’s energy and the energy it’s able to reach the hair follicle to destroy it.

Is laser hair removal safe for my skin?

When performed by a professional, like the laser technician at Laser Aesthetics MedSpa North Scottsdale, laser hair removal is very safe and it can aslso help with skin rejuvenation in the treated area. Most patients report little to no side effects and/or downtime.

What are the Pre Treatment instructions?

Avoid sun exposure in the area to be treated for two weeks before (and after) treatments.

Shave area within 24HRS leading up to treatmnet.

Come to your appointment with skin clean and free of lotions, fragrance, make-up etc.

Avoid heat-generating activities for a few hours before your procedure – sauna, hot bathing/soaking, exercise.

Be prepared to wear SPF 30+ sunscreen and avoid sun and tanning for 2 weeks after your treatment.

What are the Post Treatment instruction?

A topical soothing skin care product such as Cortisone or Aloe Vera gel may be applied following treatment if desired.

Makeup may be used immediately after the treatment as long as the skin is not irritated.

Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation (darker pigmentation).

Use a sunblock (SPF 30+) at all times throughout the course of treatment.

Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. Do not use any other hair removal treatment products or similar treatments (waxing, electrolysis or tweezing) that will disturb the hair follicle in the treatment area for 4-6 weeks after the laser treatment is performed. Shaving only should be done between treatments.

Anywhere from 5-14 days after the treatment, shedding of the treated hair may occur and this appears as new hair growth. This is NOT new hair growth. You can clean and remove the hair by washing or wiping the area with a wet cloth or Loofah sponge.

After the axilla (underarm) is treated, you may wish to use a powder instead of a deodorant for 24 hours after the treatment to reduce skin irritation.

Avoid overheating the body and treat the skin gently, as if you had sunburn, for the first 24 hours.
